The Knuckles - live: An Atherton High School Assembly 1973
This was my first gig. I was too shy to even tell my teacher that I was supposed to go to the High School to play. The secretary from the principles office announced over the loudspeaker that I was to report to the office. My teacher went to the office to see what the problem was. She complained that she didn't want me to miss my studies. Looking bewildered, she returned to tell me that I was to walk next door to the High School to play my violin in a High School Assembly. I told her I was going to play in my brothers rock band as I walked out of the class. I walked into the High School Auditorium where the bleachers were filled with High School Students. All of the equipment was set up, I plugged in my violin, and we kicked into Babysittin'. After the show, a cute High School girl asked for my autograph. I was hooked.
This tape is 37 years old. Dan actually switched the casing on the cassette to salvage it about 20 years ago. It slips in some spots and had to be spliced where people recorded over it twice. There's a lot of echo from the auditorium, but the main thing is, you can still hear Dans' indisputable original guitar. Wow I can't believe it still plays. (I was 12 and he was 16) 3 years later we did my Junior High dance, I've sent Aaron a poster that was printed for that 1976 gig (in the 1970s Flyers section in the archive). All trks. with the exception of 5 were later done by The Rub.
